That inescapable phrase, ‘seize the day.’ Carpe diem, if you want to use the Latin and as we say in Greece EL. άδραξε τη μέρα
It’s a phrase that everyone seems to throw around, from motivational speakers to inspiring public figures and even your best friend who is on a yoga kick and seem to have everything together right now.
It may start to feel meaningless over time, but there is a wisdom in its call to action – there’s no time like the present, and especially not this present. Whilst in many ways, we’re limited in what we can do, there’s no reason that we can’t make the most of the here and now and prepare for the future at the same time.
With that in mind, here are just three ways you can ‘seize the day’ in 2021.

Back to school
Adult study can be a stepping stone to our next career move, an opportunity to break into a whole new industry, or simply a chance to learn something new, step out of our comfort zones and show what we can do.
And for the working parent with little time on their hands, there has never been more options available. ARU Distance Learning is one of the best remote learning platforms for students with hectic home and family lives to juggle. Their courses fit around your commitments, and their tutors are experienced in supporting students from all backgrounds.
If this is something you’ve always considered but never been brave enough to pursue, now may be the time to take the leap.

Spice up your life
With the various lockdowns and restrictions that have stood in our way over the past year, our routines have become much the same, particularly for those who work from home and spend most of their time within the same four walls.
Whatever your day-to-day life looks like, pushing yourself to try new things can break up the inevitable monotony. It could be as simple as a new food you’ve always wanted to taste or a film you’ve always wanted to see.
And whilst now isn’t the time to hop on a plane and embark on a major international adventure, there’s no reason those with nomadic ambitions can’t start prepping now for the trip of a lifetime!

Stay on top!
We all need to kick back with a Netflix box set and switch off our brains every so often.
But how much time do you waste on things that don’t help you relax or switch off, and instead just steal your time? Things like social media, for instance.
It’s ok – we all do it. But in order to seize the day, it’s a good idea to cut back on these distractions, or rather, the time that they steal from us.
Don’t just aim to reduce the time you spend on these activities – instead, think of other ways you would like to use that time, such as going for a walk or reading a daily newspaper. These productive habits can be much better for our brains, our bodies and our overall wellbeing.
